Case Study: The Go Green Home
Case Study Finish Electric
If every American home replaced their 5 most frequently used bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) we would save close to $8 billion each year in energy costs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to nearly 10 million cars. Even more efficient than CFL's are LEDs which will make up most of the lighting throughout The Go Green Home including both recessed lighting fixtures and traditional table lamps. LED's emit an incredibly low heat output while lasting about 60 times longer than regular bulbs and 10 times longer than CFL's. Using a whole house automation system, we can turn some or all of the lights off with the push of one button to make it even easier to save energy.
More information on these and other energy-saving applications are found at www.energystar.gov, a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy. Their mission is to help consumers save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices. With the help of EnergyStar Americans saved enough energy in 2006 to offset 25 million cars' worth of greenhouse gas emissions -- and saved $14 billion on their utility bills.
